A 1.5 litre glass-jar blender for smoothies, soups, chutney and batters. Glass is heavier than plastic but does not scratch, cloud or pick up the smell of garlic and spices over time — the usual reason plastic jars get replaced.
Six hundred watts is enough for frozen fruit and ice with a little liquid, and the pulse setting gives short bursts for chopping rather than pureeing. The blade assembly unscrews completely, which is the only practical way to clean a blender properly.

Yes, with a splash of liquid and short pulses. Running it dry on ice will dull the blade over time.
Can I blend hot soup?
Let it cool below about 60°C first and never fill past two-thirds — steam builds pressure and can lift the lid.
